The Staple Shirt

It is a wardrobe staple that will never go out of style and this season the white shirt is proving its chic status once again.

High street brand Uniqlo has teamed up again with German fashion designer Jil Sander for a limited edition capsule collection. The +J collection brings the minimalist style of the German designer to Uniqlo's catalogue of wardrobe essentials, and the result? A collection of sophisticated essentials including this mandarin collar shirt that exudes a sense of understated style and offering a relaxed and effortlessly chic look courtesy of a simple fashion staple.

One of our other favourite high street brands, H&M, never disappoints with its selection of white shirts to suit every style and if you are looking for a white shirt with a twist then this one from the brand's Studio AW20 collection is for you. The puff-sleeve shirt with ruffle detailing is inspired by 19th century writer Violet Paget's style and will add a Victorian allure to your look.

Sidestepping the classic rule of a button row sitting neatly in the middle of a shirt, Massimo Dutti has stepped to the left, detailing this short-sleeve shirt with buttons starting from the neck to the shoulder and down the length of the shirt. Style Tip: This shirt would look great with jeans or with tailored pants and a blazer.

German designer Lutz Huelle took the classic white shirt and extended it to the knees, creating a stunning shirt dress with accentuated sleeves using Supima cotton for the Supima Design Lab showcased during Paris Fashion Week. While the creation can be worn solo you can also team it with black leggings and ankle boots for an exaggerated take on the oversized shirt look.
