Melbourne's Australian Centre for the Moving Image is hosting Goddess, an exhibition that highlights the power of women and their fashions in some of the most iconic movies.
Fashion is as much of a star of a movie as the actors, telling part of the storyline through wearable art, portraying a character and developing a personality through styling. Celebrating the art of fashion in motion pictures, ACMI, Australia's National museum of screen culture, is showcasing Goddess. In partnership with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in the Media, Goddess is an exhibition that highlights women and fashion in the movie industry. Bringing together never-before-seen costumes, original sketches and iconic outfits worn by Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Geena Davis herself, Goddess lets you walk through movie history as told by some of Hollywood's most famous stars who broke the rules, crossed boundaries and surpassed expectations placed on them. This is not only a colourful exhibition that is sure to appeal to fashion-lovers, but it is also interesting to see how these screen goddesses took over the creative control of their roles, creating unforgettable characters.
