The Big Bang Theory in Fashion

Palais Galliera is playing host to 1997 Fashion Big Bang, a fashion exhibition highlighting the year that changed the direction of fashion.

The spring/summer 1997 haute couture season was defined by Vogue Paris as the Big Bang collections, and now the French capital's fashion museum, Palais Galliera, is celebrating the key year in fashion with an exciting new exhibition. From the 7th of March to the 16th of July, the museum will be hosting 1997 Fashion Big Bang, a fashion exhibition bringing together iconic designs from the world's most celebrated fashion designers to define a moment in time in fashion history. Comme des Garçons's Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body collection is highlighted alongside other iconic collections from Martin Margiela, Raf Simons and Hussein Chalayan with his collection Between. Besides being the year of explosive designs, 1997 also marked the year Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler both launched their respective haute couture lines, and the year of the British invasion of the French fashion world with British designers taking over the artistic direction of French fashion houses with Alexander McQueen at Givenchy and John Galliano taking the reins at Dior. The show brings together over 50 designs and is a designer dream for any fashion-lover.
