Seeing Through Lace and Saint Laurent’s Peekaboo Designs

France's lace museum, Cité de la Dentelle et de la Mode, in Calais, is putting on quite the see-through fashion exhibition with Yves Saint Laurent : Transparences, a show that pays homage to the French designer and his playful skills in designing fashion using transparent fabrics.

Lace conjures up images of delicate fashion, couture and femininity with stylish silhouettes strutting on catwalks, and to celebrate this delicate fabric the Cité de la Dentelle et de la Mode in Calais is putting on a fabulous fashion exhibition in partnership with Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris. The show, Yves Saint Laurent : Transparences, puts the spotlight on the transparency of lace and other fabrics and their use in the iconic French designer Yves Saint Laurent's designs. With transparent materials omnipresent in the designer's creations, the show brings together 60 designs that have marked the fashion world and demonstrates how Saint Laurent manipulated delicate fabrics to fashion everything from his iconic See-Through Blouse to the Nude Dress, highlighting the sensuality of a woman's body as seen through fashion with peekaboo designs offering discreet openings to reveal a hint of cleavage or the entire back veiled in lace. The exhibition will be held in Calais from the 24th of June until the 12th of November before being showcased in Paris in the Musée Yves Saint Laurent in the beginning of 2024.
