Movie Madness on Stage

From the silver screen to the stage, our favourite movies are heading to theatres around the world to take centre stage to entertain musical fans in Melbourne, Sydney and London's West End.

Based on Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's romantic comedy of the same name, The Wedding Singer is a fabulous musical bringing the colourful 80s to the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne until the 22nd of May. Heartwarming, the musical tells the story of wedding singer Robbie Hart and waitress Julia, and their hilarious path to romance. Directed by Alister Smith, the musical features an original score, though a few favourite songs from the movie have been kept, with fun dance numbers choreographed by Michael Ralph.

Hard to just "let it go", everyone's favourite Disney movie, Frozen, is back as a musical and taking over the Capitol Theatre in Sydney until the 23rd of May before heading to Melbourne's Majesty's Theatre in June, making for a perfect night at the theatre for the whole family. Based on the award-winning movie, Frozen the Musical features an all-Australian cast and an expanded score with new songs added to the film's original song list. With beautiful costumes and impressive special effects, watch as the stage is transformed into the kingdom of Arendelle where sisters Elsa and Anna embark on quite the icy adventure.

Moulin Rouge! Baz Luhrmann's award-winning movie is heading to London's West End later in the year for a spectacular musical that will have the audience falling in love with Satine and Christian's love story all over again. Directed by Alex Timbers and choreographed by Sonya Tayeh, Moulin Rouge! The Musical will feature the film's famous songs and will also include recent hits. Set in Paris's iconic cabaret, the musical is full of glamour, romance and drama.

Everyone's favourite Hollywood prostitute, Vivian, is coming to the Savoy Theatre in London. Based on the blockbuster movie Pretty Woman, which starred Julia Roberts as Vivian and Richard Gere as Edward, Pretty Woman: The Musical tells the unlikely love story between the rich businessman and the unlucky "pretty woman". With an original score by award-winning singer Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, this musical is a must-see for all fans of the original romantic comedy.

Another show making its way to London is the adults-only show, Magic Mike Live! Stripping down to show off what has made it an international success, the dance show is based on Channing Tatum's successful movie Magic Mike. Telling the story of Mike, a stripper who headlines an all-male revue, the live show will turn up the heat with the sexy dance numbers from the 21st of May. The popular show is also showing in Berlin, Las Vegas and Australia.
