The 80s marked a shift in art, creating a colourful movement filled with graffiti, and now you can walk through the decade in Calais where a retrospective is being held at the Cité de la Dentelle et de la Mode.
A former 19th century lace factory in France is now the home to Calais's Cité de la Dentelle et de la Mode, the museum of lace and fashion, with the museum currently holding a wonderfully colourful exhibition that celebrates the 80s. The retrospective, Libres Figurations Années 80, brings together over 200 works of art by 50 international artists who together made the iconic decade stand out in the art world. The first international retrospective to put the spotlight on the defining decade, the show brings together never before seen fashion items, paintings, sculptures, as well as videos, with works by Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Hervé Di Rosa showcased. The exhibition is open until the 2nd of January, 2022, and is an interesting show to take in for anyone who enjoys pop culture and the art movement of one of the most colourful decades.
