Breaking Down the Barricade

Adidas has brought back its iconic Barricade tennis shoe, and 21 years after it was first launched, it is once again proving why it is the chosen tennis shoe.

Barricade, one of Adidas's iconic tennis shoes, is back after a few years off the market after being pulled and making way for the SoleCourt Boost. Originally launched in 2000, the Barricade was designed with durability in mind with an enlarged toe area and outsoles that minimise slipping. Originally planned to be relaunched last year for Tokyo 2020, the release date was pushed with the delay in the Olympics, giving Adidas extra time to perfect the new Barricade. And the wait was worth it. The new design includes strategically placed sense pods that grip the back of the foot, improving fit, and features laces that are connected to internal webbing so when tightened the tongue molds perfectly to the shape of the midfoot. The shoe is also designed using Primegreen, recycled materials with no virgin polyester, creating a more sustainable Barricade for all tennis players who are mindful of their carbon footprint.
